I have to admit – I tuned into last night’s American League Division Series game between Cleveland and New York simply hoping to see the Yankees lose. It was then a pleasant surprise to see former Baylor all-American Kelly Shoppach catching for the Indians. Even better, Shoppach went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and […]
Soccer fans, you have three more chances to see one of the best goalkeepers in Big 12 Conference history play in Waco. Senior Ashley Noah, the Bears’ keeper for the past four seasons, broke former Baylor all-American Dawn Greathouse’s conference record for career saves this weekend against Oklahoma State. In the process, Noah became the […]
Baylor has long taken pride in graduating not just one, but multiple generations from the same family, and that legacy tradition is alive and well today. Nearly a third of this year’s freshman class claims some legacy to Baylor–almost 800 students. In a recent survey, 82 percent of alumni said they would recommend their son […]
We’ve already told you that we’re proud of Baylor (in case you didn’t gather that from our name). We’re glad to hear that our alumni feel the same way! A survey of 600 Baylor alumni across Texas and throughout the country found that nearly 80% of alums are “very proud” of their alma mater and […]
Set your TiVos (or VCRs, if you’re behind on your technology like me) for October 5, when Baylor alum Angela Kinsey is scheduled to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman! Presumably Angela will be promoting the new season of The Office, but if we’re lucky, the current cover girl for Baylor Magazine will […]
I’ve never quite understood what it is that the Federal Reserve does — perhaps because the only economics class I ever took was a blow-off course in high school. Then last night, I was flipping channels and came across former Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan on The Daily Show, and he gave a pretty […]
I got worried when my friend told me Baylor was in jeopardy earlier this week, until he explained that he meant the long-running television quiz show Jeopardy. I missed the episode (curse that 4:30 time slot!), but as related to me, the $400 answer under the heading “Colleges and Universities” was: “The 735-acre campus of […]
It took the authors of The Land, the Law and the Lord: The Life of Pat Neff over 20 years to finally get down on paper what the former Texas governor and Baylor president did in his 80 years on Earth. Baylor alumna Dorothy Jean Chapin Blodgett (BA ’45) began the book in 1985 and […]
Tennessee Bears, get your listenin’ ears ready. The Nashville Symphony introduced proud Baylor alum Giancarlo Guerrero as its new music director Wednesday, ending a two-year search. The 1991 grad had previously served as music director for the Eugene (Oregon) Symphony, where he earned recognition from the American Symphony Orchestra League as one of the top […]
Two Baylor grads’ take on a Western remake netted them the No. 1 film in the country this week. 3:10 to Yuma, a remake of the 1957 film by the same name, was written by former Baylor students Michael Brandt and Derek Haas (both class of ’91) and stars Russell Crowe and Christian Bale. In […]
