Even though students have only been back on campus for about a month, the effort to recruit students for next year and beyond has been underway for quite some time already. Last Saturday, the University welcomed over 1,100 students and more than 4,000 total participants to campus for Fall Premiere, one of the largest days […]
While many who live along the Gulf Coast are still without power and working to get their lives back in order after Hurricane Ike, Baylor University is doing what it can to help its students and their families. After the storm made its way through Texas, University officials began to contact the 800 or so […]
How did you spend your summer? For many Baylor students, the answer to that question is “helping others.” * Over 160 students visited AIDS clinics, installed hydro-electric generators, tutored children and shared the Gospel on Baylor-sponsored mission trips across the globe this summer. Baylor Magazine compiled this powerful series of journal entries and reflections on […]
We covered most of this back when school started a couple of weeks ago, but now that official numbers are in, we thought it was worth following up on. As expected, Baylor’s freshman class is the second-largest in school history (that’s some of them pictured at right, during Late Night at the SLC). The Class […]
It seems like recently news of the upcoming presidential election is everywhere you turn. A couple of weeks, during the Democratic National Convention, I flipped through the channels and found vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden’s acceptance speech being carried live on 12 of the 80 or so channels I get on cable — 15%! But, knowing […]
Earlier this summer, we profiled quite a few members of this year’s freshman class (see here and here, for example). But here’s one we missed: the reigning Miss Black Teen Texas USA, Jordan Franklin! Franklin was given the crown last July after winning the talent and evening gown competitions; she was also named Miss Hospitality […]
As a student at Baylor, I was overwhelmed by the number and variety of extracurricular activities offered, on campus and off. In addition to the posted fliers and the sidewalk chalking that still goes on, today’s students receive a weekly e-mail newsletter called “On the Baylor Horizon” that lets them know of events going on […]
Preliminary numbers suggest that this fall’s freshman class is the second largest in Baylor history, but the Class of 2012 has really outdone itself in getting ready for football. Over 2,100 freshmen have picked up their jerseys and joined the Baylor Line, making this year’s Line the biggest in history! And they didn’t just get […]
The green-and-white striped shirts worn by Student Foundation members are immediately recognizable on Baylor’s campus. Now it looks like Baylor’s “StuFu” is getting some recognition on a broader level; the group was named the 2008 Outstanding Student Foundation by the Association of Student Advancement Programs. Student Foundation members help with student recruitment, raise scholarship funds […]
The Class of 2012 arrived at Baylor late last week, with classes beginning yesterday. Hundreds of volunteers — faculty, staff and students — swarmed across campus to help students move in to their new homes for the coming school year. An estimated 4,750 students (over 40% of undergrads) will be living on campus this year, […]
