The upcoming Alumni-Elected Regent vote, scheduled for Feb. 10-18, will be the 10th since the position was added to Baylor’s Board — and it’s hard to remember a more impressive pool of candidates.

These are the three outstanding candidates on this year’s ballot:

    • Barbara Calhoun Cargill (BSED ’82) has served as an Alumni-Elected Regent at Baylor since 2022, and also has 16 years of experience on the Texas State Board of Education. In 2020, Governor Greg Abbott conferred upon Cargill the Commission of the Yellow Rose of Texas for exceptional community service. A former biology teacher, she is the founder of WOW Science Camp and president of Cargill Consulting & Training.
    • Michael Griffin (BBA ’93, MBA ’00) was a member of the Dallas Baptist University board for almost a decade, and served six years on the Texas Baptist Missions Foundation board. He is a principal with Transwestern, a commercial real estate firm in Dallas, and has been named a DFW real estate “Heavy Hitter” for the past 20 years. D CEO Magazine has named him to its Power Broker list for the past 15 years.
    • Orhue Odaro (BS ’11) is an assistant professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC), serving as both a physician-educator and a clinical faculty member, in which capacity she cares for hospitalized patients with cancer. At Baylor, she received the Phi Beta Kappa Undergraduate Honors Society Award, and in 2022, she received the MDACC President’s Award for excellence in mentoring and education.

All recipients of a Baylor undergraduate or graduate/professional degree are eligible to vote in the election. Voting credentials will arrive via email on Feb. 10 (if Baylor has your correct email address). The online ballot opens Feb. 10 at 8 a.m. CST, and closes on Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. CST. The winner of the election will be introduced along with the rest of this year’s class of new Regents ahead of the Board’s summer meeting in late July.

Few private universities offer alumni the opportunity to elect board members with such a program, so take advantage of your chance to participate!

Sic ’em, Baylor Alumni-Elected Regent candidates!
