Carter Faith, Pat Green highlight weekend of country music at Baylor

Since 1962, Howdy has served as Baylor’s official Texas welcome to new students. With the opening of the Hurd Welcome Center in 2023, the event — presented by Pi Beta Phi and Baylor University — has evolved into a Friday night block party outside the Hurd, anchored each year by a concert from an up-and-coming country artist.

This year’s event featured line dancing, food trucks, a Ferris wheel, cornhole and more on Friday night, topped off with a concert by CMA New Artist of the Year nominee Carter Faith. (Faith followed in the footsteps of such other recent Howdy performers as Bailey Zimmerman and Ty Myers.)

As a bonus, the weekend also featured a second free country concert, with local legend Pat Green following Baylor football’s win over Colorado with a show outside McLane Stadium as part of the Baylor Backyard Live series.

And more great music is on the way: This Friday, rising classic country star Braxton Keith plays Foster Pavilion, followed Oct. 22 by indie rock band Mt. Joy. Next spring’s lineup includes música norteña artists La Fiera de Ojinaga & Los Pescadores del Río Conchos (April 11) and legendary Christian rockers Third Day (April 22).
