• Four ways Baylor parents support Baylor students

Sure, parents of college students everywhere send encouraging text messages and the occasional box of cookies to their kids away at college. But Baylor parents take it a step further, truly becoming part of the Baylor family.

Whether they live close to campus or thousands of miles away, here are four special ways Baylor parents support Baylor students:

    1. Care Packages. As noted above, care packages from parents to their students is not a new idea. But Baylor parents, working with the Baylor Parents Network, take it a step farther — gathering regularly to together create and send care packages filled with goodies not only to their own students, but to others from the area as well. From California to Massachusetts, throughout the year and especially before finals, Baylor parents do their best to provide students here with that special taste of home.

    2. Staying “in the know.” Baylor works hard to provide both students and their parents with information about the resources available to BU students — because after all, if a student has a problem or questions, chances are that first phone call is going to Mom or Dad. Perspectives, the Parents Network’s monthly email newsletter is a place parents can learn about a wide array of Baylor resources for students. 3. Family Weekend. Held each fall, Family Weekend is a chance for Baylor families to experience campus life with their student, to meet professors and administrators, and learn more about the school their son or daughter is attending. Following up on the introductions made during Orientation, it’s yet another chance for parents to get knitted into the Baylor family alongside their students.

    4. Praying for their students. The Bible tells us that if we ask anything according to God’s will, He hears us and will provide — so Baylor parents are regularly encouraged to be covering their students (and the entire campus) in prayer. The Parents Network hosts “Parents In Prayer” meetings where parents in cities across the country meet regularly to pray together. Whether praying together with other parents or quietly alone, praying is a vital way parents support their students through the joys and trials of college life.

That’s just a small sampling. Parents all have their own unique ways of encouraging their students, and that support helps encourage those students to be the best they can be — a big part of what makes Baylor special.

    Sic ’em, Baylor parents!
