• #FiveStarr: Celebrating the 5th anniversary of President Starr’s inauguration

Inauguration of Baylor President Ken Starr

Throughout the summer, we took a look back and celebrated many of the highlights of President Ken Starr’s five years at Baylor. From new facilities to new programs, the last-half decade has been a time of growth and anticipation since September 17, 2010, when Judge Starr was inaugurated as Baylor’s 14th president.

Yes, it was five years ago today — Constitution Day 2010 — that Judge Starr was ceremonially inaugurated at Baylor. Thousands of attendees in the Ferrell Center heard an inaugural address from renowned Yale law professor and author Stephen Carter (a longtime friend of Judge Starr) and witnessed the unique pageantry and ceremony of an inaugural event. The day was capped by Judge Starr’s inaugural remarks on Baylor’s history and future, and our university’s unique role and mission in academia and the world we serve.

“We know who we are. Our mission is unmistakably clear… More than ever, the world needs Baylor University and the mighty impact of its enduring principles,” President Starr said, calling the Baylor family to join together to work towards Baylor’s future.

The ceremony capped a meaningful week at Baylor in which Judge Starr launched the successful President’s Scholarship Initiative, which raised over $100 million for student scholarships to enable more deserving students to attend Baylor. Other events leading up to the inauguration included a panel discussion on the Supreme Court and a reception on campus.

The first five years have flown by; here’s to many more!
