• Sophomore helps lead hometown food pantry’s Christmas efforts

Freddie MainFreddie Main began volunteering at a local food pantry when he was just five years old. Now a sophomore at Baylor, Main today helps organize the pantry’s annual Christmas project that will provide food and gifts to 170 or more local families and nearly 300 children this winter.

Main has spent several weekends this fall at home preparing for the event, and as soon as finals are complete, he will head north to his hometown of Trophy Club, Texas (north of Fort Worth), to help Northwest Christian Community Services (known locally as the Roanoke Food Pantry) get ready for Christmas. The pantry receives no federal or state funds, but thanks to volunteers like Main has served its community for more than 20 years.

Main has found time and energy for such service despite battling juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, which has led to weekly treatments and injections for the past six years. On top of that, he recently has extensive shoulder surgery, leading to intensive rehabilitation efforts so that he wouldn’t miss this event.

    Sic ’em, Freddie!
