• Big 12 Coach of the Year honor caps big week for Baylor golf

Women's head coach Sylvia FerdonIt’s been a good week for Baylor’s men’s and women’s golf programs.

On Monday, the women’s golf team learned it had qualified for NCAA Regionals once again — the program’s ninth appearance in the last 10 years. On Wednesday, senior Bill Alcorn finished second overall at the Big 12 Men’s Championship in Kansas, the best showing by a Bear since Worth Williams won the tournament in 2001. (The men will learn if they will extend their streak of 11 consecutive NCAA appearances when the field is announced on Monday.)

Then on Thursday, junior Hannah Burke was named to the All-Big 12 team and women’s head coach Sylvia Ferdon was named Big 12 Coach of the Year. The honor was the second for Ferdon; she also claimed the award in 2000. Ferdon has plenty of company at Baylor, as eight of the Bears’ 13 current head coaches have earned conference coach of the year honors.

    Sic ’em, Baylor golf!
