Baylor Facebook page tops 40,000 friends
The university’s official Facebook page is barely a year old, and already it has more than 40,000 “likes” from members of the Baylor family, be they students, alumni, faculty/staff, parents or other friends of the university. Are you one of them?
The page offers a wide variety of photo galleries and videos, covering everything from important athletic contests (like the Texas football win) to alumni gatherings (such as Homecoming) to student activities (Pigskin Revue, for example). It’s also a hotbed for Baylor conversation, particularly following big athletic wins (see the 125 comments posted after the Bears beat the Longhorns).
The official Facebook page brings together Bears across all years and degrees, but for those seeking to connect with fellow Baylor students and graduates from individual parts of the university, there are a wide variety of other Facebook pages out there as well. (Links after the jump.)
A Baylor Homecoming page served alumni and students leading up to last month’s big event, and the Baylor Athletics page shares highlights and news from each of BU’s 19 varsity sports on a daily basis.
Most of the university’s various schools are covered: College of Arts & Sciences, Hankamer School of Business, School of Engineering and Computer Science, the Honors College, School of Social Work, Baylor Law School, George W. Truett Theological Seminary, Louise Herrington School of Nursing and Baylor Graduate School.
So are many Baylor departments, student organizations and activities, such as Student Government, Spiritual Life, Greek Life, Campus Rec and Student Productions. (And that doesn’t even begin to cover all the fraternities, sororities and clubs that have their own pages. The same goes for academic departments.) Even service departments such as Baylor Libraries, Career Services and Academic Advisement are using Facebook as a way to get news out and hear back from the student body.
A quick Facebook search for “Baylor” finds dozens of pages, making Facebook one of the easiest ways to connect to the university.
Sic ’em, Bears on Facebook!
