  • Alum among ‘100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare’ for 7th year in a row

October 5, 2010 // Posted In Alumni, Honors

Joel AllisonThe list of the “100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare” compiled earlier this year by Modern Healthcare magazine includes a lot of recognizable names: President Barack Obama at No. 1, followed by others like Rep. Nancy Pelosi (No. 3), Bill Gates (No. 8), Sen. Harry Reid (No. 12) and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (No. 16). Right behind those on the list? Baylor alumnus Joel Allison, BA ’70, at No. 23.

In fact, the honor marked the seventh straight year on the list for Allison, who has served as president and CEO of the Baylor Health Care System in Dallas since 2000. After playing football at Baylor, he began a career in health care management that is approaching 30 years, joining BHCS in 1993 and ascending to the top in 2000. This fall, he will join the Baylor Athletic Hall of Fame’s Wall of Honor.

Allison has remained involved with Baylor in a variety of ways over the years, from speaking at Baylor Business Network gatherings, to joining other prominent BU alums in supporting the Big 12 Conference back in June, to serving on the Executive Inauguration Committee for President Ken Starr’s inauguration last month.

    Sic ’em, Joel!
