College football's best offensive head coach: Baylor's Art Briles

ESPN asked 128 current head football coaches this question: “Who is the nation’s best offensive head coach?”

The clear winner? Baylor’s Art Briles, with 22% of the vote. And it really shouldn’t be any surprise, looking at the numbers the Bears have put up during Briles’ tenure:

    • Through four games this season, Baylor leads the nation in points and yards per game.
    • Want to go back further? Since the start of 2013, Baylor has scored 60+ points in almost half their contests (8 of the last 17 games).
    • The Bears have scored 30+ points in 33 of their last 36 games, and 40+ points in 29 of those contests.
    • Since 2011, Baylor has finished either first or second in the Big 12 in scoring, passing yards and rushing yards every year. (The Bears lead all three categories so far in 2014, too.)
    • Baylor is the only team in the country to have finished in the top five in total offense each of the last three seasons; the Bears finished second nationally in 2011 and 2012, led the country last year, and are on top again thus far in 2014.

No. 6-ranked Baylor will look to add to its totals Saturday in Austin against Texas (2:30 p.m., ABC). Tickets are still available from the UT ticket office.
