• In Arizona for the game, Baylor fans turned out to serve the host community

For many Baylor fans, the trip to Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl wasn’t just about the game; they found time to give back to the host community.

Approximately 200 Baylor and UCF fans joined Baylor’s President, First Lady and spirit squads in spending New Year’s Eve morning volunteering at a local food bank. Together, they packed more than 1,800 boxes of food for elderly needy; each box contained several days worth of food for a family of four. [Click here to see photos from the day.]

President Ken Starr summed it up well in this op-ed for the Waco Tribune-Herald:

“It is frequently said that — in our beloved Texas — the three ‘f’s’ predominate: faith, family and football. As Baylor’s 2013 football season drew to a close in the beautiful desert valley of Phoenix and Glendale, Baylor Nation looks back with understandable pride on the most successful football season in our university’s long history. We can also take pride that, as 2013 was drawing to a close, Baylor Nation said thank you to the people of Arizona by a New Year’s Eve service project to benefit some of that beautiful state’s neediest residents. This is Baylor Nation at its best as we welcome the new year.”

    Sic ’em, Bears!
