• Alum chosen as 1 of 4 attorneys nationwide to represent those hurt by BP oil spill

Brian BarrLast fall, when the federal government decided to consolidate the hundreds of lawsuits filed in the Eastern District of Louisiana against BP and other companies following the April 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, a federal judge chose four attorneys to oversee the claims on behalf of those who were hurt by the spill. One of those four attorneys is Baylor graduate Brian Barr, BA ’96.

Barr is an attorney and shareholder with the firm of Levin, Papantonio, Thomas, Mitchell, Rafferty & Proctor, P.A., in Pensacola, Fla. After earning his degree in history from Baylor, he went on to law school at Florida State, from which he graduated seventh in his class in 2001. He has worked with Levin, Papantonio ever since, becoming known for his work in environmental class actions such as this.

Over the next year leading up to the trial’s scheduled date in February 2012, Barr and the other three lawyers will represent hundreds of Gulf Coast residents whose livelihoods were damaged by the spill.

    Sic ’em, Brian!
