• Hungry for justice, Baylor students seek solutions to issues of poverty

    Poverty Summit

Baylor students are taking the lead in tackling the issues that surround poverty in Texas, across the nation and around the world. Over the weekend, BU again hosted its annual Poverty Summit, aimed at raising awareness of poverty, engaging students about issues of justice related to poverty and encouraging action on the issues.

“Baylor is privileged to have the only Campus Kitchen in the state of Texas, so we have the opportunity to share that experience with other Texas institutions. In addition, Baylor students have abundant gifts; I hope that they consider how to use their talents to advocate for the marginalized and make a positive impact in our community,” said Marianne Magjuka, coordinator for service learning at Baylor University.

Several hundred Baylor students attended the summit, which was organized by Baylor Student Activities, the Campus Kitchens Project and the Baylor Interdisciplinary Poverty Initiative. This year’s focus was on the issues stemming from poverty, such as hunger and human trafficking.

Whether it’s gatherings like the Poverty Summit or “Texas at the Table“, ongoing efforts like the ONE Campaign and Campus Kitchen, or longtime efforts like Steppin’ Out, Baylor students continue to step up to the plate and fulfill Baylor’s mission of creating leaders who serve wherever needed.

    Sic ’em, Baylor students!
