• Both tennis teams advance to Sweet 16 for sixth straight year

Baylor men's tennisFor the sixth straight year, Baylor’s men’s and women’s tennis teams have each reached the Sweet 16, easily winning their first- and second-round matches over the weekend here in Waco.

Head coach Matt Knoll’s No. 7-seeded men swept Oral Roberts and Rice by identical 4-0 scores to earn their ninth consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament’s Round of 16. The Lady Bears also ran off two 4-0 blankings, as head coach Joey Scrivano’s squad — the No. 1 overall seed in this year’s tournament — shut out Northwestern State and Tulsa. Hosting the first two rounds has been good to both programs, as the men are now 16-0 as NCAA Championship hosts (including 10 4-0 sweeps) while the women are 12-0 (including nine shutouts).

All action from here on out, however, will take place at the University of Georgia. Both Baylor teams will face familiar foes in the Round of 16, as the women battle 16th seed Texas Thursday evening and the men square off against 10th seed Texas A&M Friday afternoon.

    Sic ’em, Baylor tennis!
