• Incoming and outgoing Lady Bears honored

morrow-april09.jpgEven with the season complete, head coach Kim Mulkey’s Baylor women’s basketball team continues to make headlines.

Thursday, senior Jessica Morrow was selected as the 27th overall pick of the WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream. Morrow finished her Baylor career among the Lady Bears’ career leaders in 3-pointers (No. 4), blocks (No. 9) and points (No. 17). Morrow is the seventh Lady Bear to be chosen in the WNBA draft; a Baylor player has been selected in each of the last five drafts.

Monday, incoming freshman Brittany Griner was named Parade All-America Player of the Year. Griner — who has already earned national notoriety as “the girl who dunks” — averaged 28 points, 12.5 rebounds and 8.5 blocks a game for Aldine Nimitz High School in Houston. She’ll join a Baylor team this fall that has reached at least the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 in four of the last six years.

    Sic ’em, Lady Bears!
