‘I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything in the world’ — Bears describe their time at BU
Baylor basketball’s losses Sunday — both the men and women fell in the NCAA second round — still sting. But if you listened to the student-athletes talk after the game about their Baylor experience, you’ll understand what makes BU special, and what “Preparing Champions for Life” really means.
Norchad Omier: “Coming to Baylor is probably one of the best things I’ve ever done. I wouldn’t change that for anything. The way the coaches care about you, your teammates… They make you grow spiritually, mentally, physically.
“Anybody in the recruiting class, anybody that wants to come to Baylor, I’m going to tell them: Come to Baylor if you want to grow as a person. Everybody’s going to grow as a basketball player; Baylor is the right place for both. It’s never going to be a wrong decision going to Baylor.”
VJ Edgecombe: “My time here at Baylor, I’m going to be honest — it’s the best place. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything in the world. Not for the national championship, nothing.
“You’re gonna grow spiritually here. That’s what drew me to Baylor — to grow as a man. Basketball’s gonna stop, I promise you. Basketball’s gonna stop, and how am I going to approach life after that? I just want to be the best man I can be. I just want to stay connected to God, and if you want to stay connected to God, come to Baylor, for sure.”
Obviously all of the players and coaches on @BaylorMBB want to win basketball games, but the message was clear from the players and coach Scott Drew about what players are going find when they come to Baylor.

Jayden Nunn: “Most important of all, you’re going to find a relationship with Christ. Before I came to Baylor, I didn’t know God. After I came to Baylor, I got to know Him a lot more, built a relationship with Him. You’re gonna grow in your spiritual faith, for sure.”
Aaronette Vonleh: “With this being my third school, I can confidently say that this has been the most family dynamic I’ve ever been a part of. It was just really special to be able to come every day and be around people who truly like love and appreciate you, and want to pour into you, and you can pour into them. It’s just been more than I ever imagined it would be.
“My coaches are just an elite group of coaches, and how far they were able to bring us, I’m just really happy that we were playing under them. I’m very glad that I chose to come here, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
It didn’t make headlines, but multiple Bears were baptized this year, a result of the ways Baylor coaches and staff pour into these students.
Baylor really is a special place — this is just the latest example.
Sic ’em, Bears!
