Baylor graduate programs fare well in latest U.S. News rankings
Every year, U.S. News unveils to the world its annual ranking of American colleges and universities. Last fall, they named Baylor No. 71 in the nation and No. 4 in Texas — our highest ranking ever.
Such rankings are typically based on undergraduate education, which has long been Baylor’s bread and butter. But for those pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees, there’s another important U.S. News ranking: its “Best Graduate Schools 2018” guidebook, released earlier this month. Here’s a quick look at how Baylor fares in U.S. News’ rankings:
- Baylor Law School moved up four places to No. 51 in the nation, and its trial advocacy program moved up to No. 3.
- The Hankamer School of Business now ranks in the top 15% for its graduate programs. Among specialty rankings, Baylor’s three-year-old online MBA program is also among the top 15%, and its MBA in healthcare administration is No. 17 in the nation.
- The Louise Herrington School of Nursing came away with several honors, including a master of science in nursing program in the top 15%, a doctor of nursing practice program in the top 10%, a nursing-midwifery program at No. 10 overall, and an online MSN that leaped an entire 40 spots to No. 39 in the country.
- Baylor’s School of Education now ranks among the top quarter of schools nationwide for its graduate programs.
- The School of Engineering and Computer Science comes in No. 123 — an impressive feat for a school that only added a doctoral program three years ago!
- Baylor’s graduate health disciplines include social work programs in the top 25%, clinical psychology Ph.D. and speech-language pathology programs in the top 30%, plus the U.S. Army-Baylor master’s in healthcare management at No. 7 in the nation and doctor of physical therapy degree at No. 8 overall.
- Baylor’s sciences, social sciences and humanities add 10 more programs to the rankings: psychology, up three places to No. 98; English, up five places to No. 116; political sciences, included without numerical rank; sociology at No. 87; biological sciences at No. 84; chemistry at No. 96; geosciences at No. 106; mathematics at No. 134; physics at No. 123; and statistics at No. 75.
U.S. News bases its rankings on two types of data: expert opinions about the programs, and statistics that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research and students. It all adds up to support what we already know — that Baylor is an amazing place to continue your education.
