• Student-athletes return ‘blessed’ from Kenya mission trip

Melissa Jones in KenyaBack in May, we noted that athletics chaplain Wes Yeary was leading a 16-member team comprised primarily of Baylor student-athletes on a two-week mission trip to Kenya. Several of you wrote in asking for an update, and thankfully, Jerry Hill at the Baylor Bear Insider has done just that with this excellent story.

The team visited area orphanages, held sports clinics and worked with a local pastor to help street children. And while the team members certainly had an impact on the children they worked with across Kenya, the Baylor students who were able to go might have been even more impacted.

“We’ve all seen the ‘Feed the Children’ commercials and stuff like that,” said sophomore football player Bryan Swindoll. “But until you’re actually confronted with it… There’s just so much that your mind can’t wrap itself around – the need and the suffering that goes on there. But right along with it is the joy that’s found in Christ.”

And that’s just one of the many teams of students that Baylor sent out on mission trips this summer. We haven’t yet had a chance to hear from most of the groups, but to get a sense of what they experience and learn on these trips, check out students’ responses in last fall’s Baylor Magazine.

    Sic ’em, Baylor servants!
