April and May busy months for green-minded efforts on campus

April and May are busy months around campus as students wrap up the semester; the final day of classes was last Friday, and finals began today. Those leading the sustainability charge at Baylor have been equally hard at work this spring. In fact, the university’s efforts recently drew the attention of U.S. News & World Report, which highlighted Baylor among 10 colleges and universities shining a light on issues of sustainability.

Instead of celebrating just 24 hours of Earth Day, the Baylor campus recognized seven days in late March as Creation Week. It began with the Bearathon (which continues to strive to be not only the hardest but the most earth-friendly half-marathon in Texas) and continued through Chapel (including this video about Baylor’s sustainability efforts), a Creation Celebration event in the SUB Bowl (where 20 sustainability-minded campus and community groups hosted booths), and concluded with Uproar Records’ Project Greenway recycled fashion show that drew an audience of more than 400 students.

With the year ending and students moving out of their apartments, Baylor students are encouraged to donate unneeded items to local charities the Take It or Leave It program. Instead of throwing away items they no longer need, students can easily donate them to local charities at locations in the residence hall lobbies and near Baylor-run apartment complexes.
