• Indian student group shares culture through Dandiya Night: Dance Off!

ISSA Dance Off!Here’s an interesting fact for you: Did you know that Baylor has the second-most diverse student body in the Big 12? It’s true; at almost 30%, minority students make up a higher percentage of Baylor’s undergraduate population than every conference rival but one.

That same ranking holds true among students of Asian descent, which may have something to do with Baylor’s Indian Subcontinent Student Association (ISSA) being the largest multicultural organization on campus. The goal of the group is to “provide unity among students of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, and Myanmar” while “providing all Baylor University students the opportunity to experience basic Indian Subcontinent culture.”

ISSA held its annual Dandiya Night: Dance Off! last week, as those in attendance both watched and participated in traditional dance from the subcontinent. (Enjoy a photo gallery of the event here.) With Bollywood films growing in popularity in the United States, it’s educational, interesting and just plain fun for Baylor students to get to witness dance forms like this first-hand.

    Sic ’em, ISSA!
