The Bearathon is a lot of things to a lot of people. It’s “the toughest half-marathon in Texas.” It’s perhaps the greenest race in Texas, thanks to the cup-free system used for the first time this year. And it’s Student Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year, with proceeds going to student scholarships. [iframe: title=”Baylor iframe […]
Baylor is well-known for producing Texas Baptist pastors, especially since the opening of George W. Truett Theological Seminary in 1994. But even within the Baptist world, the impact of Baylor graduates doesn’t only stay between Texas’ borders. Take Rev. Billy Dickerson, for example. Dickerson earned his degree in religion from Baylor in 1953. After 10 […]
Hundreds of Baylor students each year use spring break not for rest and relaxation, but to serve, heading out all over the country on mission trips. For some BU students this spring, that service meant simply staying in Waco, as dozens of volunteers from Baylor’s Habitat for Humanity chapter and a local church worked to […]
It’s a simple premise: For every textbook the company sells, a new textbook will be given to a student in need. That’s the idea behind Cause Bound, a company launched last fall by Baylor grad Jared Allen, BBA ’09. “There are hundreds of thousands of schools around the world that don’t have enough textbooks, or […]
The various Baylor Network groups around the country gather for a variety of purposes — to network Baylor graduates for business, to bring together Bears in support of BU’s various athletic programs, or simply to promote fellowship among members of the Baylor family. Given how Dr. King spent his life, it seems very fitting that Martin Luther King Jr. Day is becoming recognized nationwide as a day for service. Yesterday’s MLK Day marked the 25th anniversary of the day becoming a federal holiday; events at Baylor over the weekend celebrating the man and his memory included a candlelight […]
Among the 68,000 fans in attendance for the Texas Bowl were approximately 300 special guests of the university: a gathering of patients (and their families) from Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. Sitting with members of Baylor’s Student Foundation, the children received not only tickets to the game but Gold Rush shirts, green and gold pom-poms […]
Five years ago, Carrington Marzett was diagnosed with leukemia, enduring eight months of treatment at MD Anderson in Houston. With her cancer now in remission, Marzett is today a junior business major at Baylor — but her efforts continue to help other children fighting cancer, especially during this Christmas season. While at MD Anderson, Marzett […]
Having had friends in law school, both at Baylor and elsewhere, I can tell you firsthand that law students don’t get much free time. Those few precious unscheduled moments they do capture are then usually given either to a little extra sleep or a little extra work to help them get ahead in school. With […]
Today is Veterans’ Day. To honor and aid those who have served to keep us safe and protect our freedoms, researchers in Baylor’s College of Arts and Sciences (psychology/neuroscience) and the School of Social Work are studying what exactly causes post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and how it affects not only soldiers but their families in […]
