Baylor students: Whether you’re a freshman ready for your first collegiate classes (Monday!) or a senior who just can’t wait for graduation to get here, take note. If you’re looking for a quality keepsake of your college experience, the Baylor Round Up (yearbook) seems to be a good bet. In 2009, the Round Up was […]
While most of Baylor’s undergraduate population has been away for the summer, BU graduate students (and Baylor graduates in grad school elsewhere) have been racking up honors and recognition from all across the country: * George Montanez (pictured) graduated this past weekend with a master’s degree in computer science; thanks to fellowships from the Ford […]
Several years ago, Baylor engineering professor Dr. Walter Bradley began investigating ways to create low-cost products from the simple coconut — a natural, renewable resource found in many poor coastal regions. The idea was to develop technologies and a business model that would multiply the value of coconuts (and thereby multiply the income of the […]
I’ve often thought of a master’s thesis as just one more (really big) homework assignment that, once completed, sits on the shelf forever. But as Baylor students often prove, that doesn’t have to be the case. The latest example comes from Aaron Franzen, a doctoral candidate in sociology. After earning his BA in sociology from […]
[May 2015 update: Four years later, Lyons graduates this weekend — with her master’s in communication sciences and disorders, having earned her BA in 2013. Sic ’em, Lizzie!] Lizzie Lyons could have gone to college almost anywhere. As valedictorian of her class in Berkley, Michigan, and with a perfect ACT score, Lyons was accepted to […]
Count my wife among the many who are eagerly awaiting tonight’s release of the final film in the Harry Potter saga. With the film’s debut, one Baylor professor has found himself a little bit busier than usual. English professor Dr. Greg Garrett already wears many hats — including writer, teacher, minister and artist — but […]
I’ve written and erased close to 10 introductions to this post; each had some variation on how children suffer innocently through wars and other events that they have no role in. But really, this is a case where the music makes the point far more eloquently than I could. Please enjoy — and pray along […]
Since 2003, Baylor students and faculty members have provided a select group of Waco youth each summer with a life-changing experience known as Camp Success. A four-week, intensive speech, language and reading program, Camp Success participants receive 50 hours of one-on-one therapy — equivalent to a full year’s worth of work in many school districts. […]
In talking with Baylor folks, it seems very few know of the university’s long partnership with the U.S. Army. Located at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, the Army-Baylor Graduate Program in Health and Business Administration offers seven master’s and doctoral programs, the oldest of which celebrated its 60th anniversary earlier this month. Baylor University […]
Phi Beta Kappa members represent, in many ways, the best of the best among college students. Only about 10% of colleges and universities nationwide have Phi Beta Kappa chapters, and only about 10% of arts and sciences at those institutions are selected for Phi Beta Kappa membership. The Baylor chapter was approved in 1976 and […]
