These 7 photos show the beauty of Baylor’s multicultural celebrations
Baylor’s student body is comprised of students from 80+ different countries who speak 40 different languages, hailing from every inhabited continent, countries bordering every ocean, and from every corner of the globe. Each student contributes pieces of his/her own unique culture and experience to the campus community.
Each year, Baylor’s Department of Multicultural Affairs aids our many diverse student organizations in hosting amazing events to celebrate global diversity on campus. We pulled our favorite photos from some of the biggest multicultural events on campus to share a glimpse of these unique celebrations with the Baylor Family:
1. Holi — The arrival of spring is filled with friendship, fun, and beautiful colors.
2. Autumn Moon — This mid-autumn holiday, traditionally held in China, Vietnam and other counties to celebrate a successful harvest, is filled with brightly-lit lanterns.
3. ¡Parranda! — The Festival Latino features sights, sounds and flavors from Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela and other Latin-American countries.
4. StompFest — Students take the Waco Hall stage to take part in this historically African American form of dance in which the body is used as an instrument to create beats and rhythms.
5. Lunar New Year — Marked by iconic dancing lions, this Asian tradition features dancers who mimic the movements of a lion.
6. Gateway to India — Baylor’s Indian Subcontinent Student Association hosts this event, which features a dance competition, music, and a fashion show.
7. AsianFest — This festival features dance, music and fashion performances, representing centuries of Asian tradition.
These images show how beautiful these multicultural events can be — and lend insight into why their presence on our campus is important. We encourage the Baylor Family to stay up-to-date with the multicultural events calendar and take part in the cultural celebrations of our fellow Bears!
Sic ’em, Baylor MA!
