• 5 ways Baylor helps students #SicFinals

Crammed libraries, study groups, coffee runs, all-nighters, and endless regret from skipping that one day of class… Yes, it’s finals week at Baylor, the time of the year when students are more on edge than ever.

If this sounds like you (or your friend, son, daughter, etc.), then take note of the many events and services Baylor offers to help keep students afloat in their time of need:

    * Free tutoring. The Paul L. Foster Success Center offers free tutoring to students year-round — but their busiest season is of course during finals. Students can make an appointment with a tutor for a specific course to get in some last-minute learning.

    * Extended hours. The most popular places to study on campus are by far Moody Library and the SUB, so to allow for longer study times, the buildings are open during finals until 2 a.m. or later.

    * Free counseling. The Baylor Counseling Center has 22 full-time mental health providers on staff and offers free sessions students might find especially helpful this time of year. If a student is feeling utterly overwhelmed by the pressure to excel in school, Baylor counselors are there to support them in a variety of ways — one-on-one, in a group, or even online. (Note: If you are in crisis and need help immediately, please call 911; if you need to speak with a Baylor counselor immediately, call 254-710-2467, no matter the hour.)

    * Free late-night breakfast, yoga, and coffee. To keep spirits up during the final stretch of the semester, Baylor Student Activities hosts plenty of events. This semester’s events include “Moonlight Extravaganza” at Penland, with free food, music and carnival games; a free yoga hour on Fountain Mall; and free coffee on the last day of finals.

    * Therapy dogs. Every semester, Baylor brings therapy dogs into Moody Library to brighten students’ days, thanks to Angel Paws Waco. It’s nearly impossible to be stressed while snuggling one of these sweet dogs!

Final exams are perhaps the most critical times in a college student’s life — but it’s important to remember that grades are not everything. No paper, test or project will ever be more important than your mental health. Take advantage of everything Baylor has to offer during these tense days, and you’ll pull through!

Sic ’em, and sic finals, Bears!
