Meet Baylor’s new class of Regents
As Baylor’s Board of Regents holds its regular summer meeting this week, five new Regents are taking their seats at the table to start new terms: two serving at-large, plus one new Alumni-Elected Regent, one new BGCT Regent, and one new Student Regent:
- Jeremy Fudge (BA ’97), at-large Regent, is CEO of BAL, a leading U.S. corporate immigration law firm. His name might be best known to the Baylor Family for his generosity that helped make the Fudge Football Development Center a reality last year.
- Roger Lowe (BBA ’91), at-large Regent, is chairman and CEO of Lowe’s Market, a grocery company with 150+ stores across five states. Lowe has served on the Hankamer School of Business advisory board and the Give Light Campaign Steering Committee.
- Dr. Orhue Odaro (BS ’11), Alumni-Elected Regent, is a physician-educator at Houston’s MD Anderson Cancer Center. She also serves on the Baylor College of Medicine Alumni Executive Board and on the Board of Directors for the Baylor Bridges program, which connects BU prehealth students with alumni in healthcare.
- Rev. Dr. Joseph C. Parker Jr. (MDiv ’97), BGCT Regent, has served 30+ years as senior pastor at Austin’s David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He currently serves on the board of directors for the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America, and has served on the board for the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
- Spencer Yim (junior), Student Regent, is a University Scholar in Baylor’s Honors College, double-majoring in political science and economics with minors in Chinese and history. He is a Crane Scholar through Baylor’s Institute for Faith and Learning, and was Baylor’s Community Leader of the Year for the HRC last year.
In all, 88% of this year’s Regents — 30 of 34 — are either Baylor alumni, professors or current students (including 10 who have earned multiple degrees from the university). Several are also current Baylor parents. Given the unique Baylor experience — a truly transformational education built on the foundation of our Christian faith — it’s good to see so many Bears answer the call to serve their alma mater.
Sic ’em, Baylor Regents!
