Former Baylor star wins second World Series title with Dodgers
Max Muncy already held the career records for most MLB home runs, runs scored and RBI by a former Baylor player. Now, he holds the BU record for most World Series rings, too.
Muncy’s Dodgers won their second World Series in his seven seasons in L.A. on Wednesday night, adding the 2024 title to the team’s 2020 championship. Muncy started all five games at third base, batting fifth in all but one game, as Los Angeles won the series over the New York Yankees, four games to one.
Earlier this month, Muncy became the first player in MLB history to reach base 12 consecutive times in a single postseason, tying Reggie Jackson’s overall MLB postseason record (spanning across two postseasons). Muncy also tied the Dodgers franchise record with his 13th career postseason home run.
This marked the fourth time in five years that Baylor has been represented at the World Series. Muncy began the run with the Dodgers in 2020, followed by Shea Langeliers (taxi squad) and the Atlanta Braves in 2021, and Cody Bradford with the Texas Rangers in 2023.
He is the first Bear ever to win two World Series rings as a player. Three other Bears have won one title apiece: Dave Danforth with the 1917 Chicago White Sox, Langeliers in 2021, and Bradford in 2023.
Sic ’em, Max!
