• #BU27’s unique class hymn captures the wonder of the college experience

While it’s common for incoming freshmen to be welcomed to college by campus leaders, it’s not so common for that encouragement to come in the form of a hymn — but that’s what we do here at Baylor.

Since 2008, each incoming class has been welcomed with its own unique hymn, each capturing an aspect of this moment of excitement, possibility and transition in a student’s life.

This year’s hymn, “There’s More,” was written expressly for the Class of 2027, with lyrics and music by University Chaplain Burt Burleson (BA ’80). The lyrics speak to the wonder of beginning the college experience — entering a “world of wonderment” in which students can find God and their faith. The accompanying music video features snapshot images of this special time (primarily Line Camp, when students get to know Baylor and one another):

You can watch and listen to each Baylor class hymn since 2017 on the university’s YouTube channel, and hear class hymns dating even further back on iTunes.

“There’s More” — The Class Hymn for Baylor University’s Class of 2027

There’s more to know than we have known.
… More to share than we have shown.
There’s more to see than we have seen.
… More beyond and in between.

Here in this world of wonderment,
    Through Holy longings and laments,
We find the Kingdom deep within.
We find our faith again and again.

Here in this season of the soul,
… as we seek for all that’s whole.
Here joy will meet us on the way,
… Mercies new from day to day.

Here in this world of wonderment,
    Through Holy longings and laments,
We find the Kingdom deep within.
We find our faith again and again.

There’s One who blesses as we bless,
… time to heal some brokenness.
There’s One who’s calling with this call,
… Christ in you, the hope of all.

Here in this world of wonderment,
    Through Holy longings and laments,
We find the Kingdom deep within.
We find our faith again and again.
