• 2020 Baylor grad’s painting — created for a BU class — spotted on cover of TIME

    Cover of Time Magazine

If you stroll past a newsstand or checkout counter that has the latest issue of TIME magazine for sale (June 7-14, 2021), stop and take a closer look.

That painting that’s used as an accent piece, in the upper-left corner?

That’s the work of a 2020 Baylor graduate.

Specifically, it’s the work of John Singletary (BFA ’20), who graduated from Baylor less than a year ago (August 2020) with a painting concentration, and who created this work during a Baylor advanced painting class. Singletary is now represented by Atlanta-based Black Art in America, and recently was awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant for emerging artists. He is set to begin his graduate studies at the School of Visual Arts in New York City this fall.

The work, Devil’s Pie, is now owned by artist and writer Akwaeke Emezi, who is featured on the cover. (That’s Singletary’s full work pictured, below right.)

    Sic ’em, John!
