Baylor football set for Big 12 Championship game rematch with Oklahoma
After finishing an incredible 11-1 in the regular season, Baylor football is headed to the Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship game for the first time in program history!
The No. 7-ranked Bears will face No. 6-ranked Oklahoma on Saturday at AT&T Stadium (11 a.m., ABC) in a rematch of last month’s primetime thriller, in which Baylor jumped out to a 31-10 halftime lead only to fall 34-31. That game was one of the nation’s 10 most-watched college football games this year, drawing the most viewers of any Big 12 game on ABC since 2013.
“We have an opportunity to play this week against a great team in Oklahoma,” head coach Matt Rhule said on Monday. “I told our guys, ‘Let’s not make this about the Big 12 Championship. Let’s not make this about the College Football Playoff. Let’s not make this about a ranking. Let’s not even make this about Oklahoma… Let’s just make it about us. Let’s try to go 1-0 this week, just like we did all year. So we’re gonna go out there and play our best game against a great team in a cool atmosphere and see what happens.”
Oklahoma, like Baylor, enters the title game at 11-1 on the season; the Sooners’ only loss of the season came at Kansas State, 48-41. In a series that dates back to 1901, this will be the first time the two teams have ever squared off at a neutral site.
Baylor students have already snapped up more than 3,000 tickets for the game. Still need tickets? Seats in the Baylor block are available for $95 each, with additional tickets available through SeatGeek at a variety of price points. You can also register now for the Baylor Alumni Tailgate, to be held near AT&T Stadium on Saturday morning from 8-10:30. Need something new to wear? The Baylor Bookstore has plenty of gear and accessories available.
Sic ’em, Bears!
