• Lady Bears advance to Sweet 16 for 11th straight season

Head coach Kim Mulkey hugs players coming off the court

For the 11th straight season (and the 14th time in 16 years), the Baylor Lady Bears are headed to the Sweet 16!

Seniors Kalani Brown and Chloe Jackson won their final two games in the Ferrell Center, as head coach Kim Mulkey’s squad advanced (again) by defeating Abilene Christian, 95-38, and Cal, 102-63, on Saturday and Monday in the Ferrell Center. The Lady Bears are now 17-1 in NCAA tournament games in Waco — and that one loss came all the way back in 2002.

[HIGHLIGHTS: vs. Abilene Christian || vs. Cal]

The Lady Bears’ run of 11 straight NCAA Sweet 16s is the third-longest active streak in the nation, behind only Stanford (12 straight) and UConn (an astounding 26 in a row). All three runs far outpace the longest active streak on the men’s side, held by Gonzaga at five in a row.

Next up for Baylor: 15th-ranked South Carolina, the runner-up in the SEC this year. The Lady Bears and Gamecocks have already met once this season; Baylor won that game on the road back in December, 94-69. The rematch is scheduled for Saturday in Greensboro, N.C. (1 p.m. CT, ESPN); the winner of that game would face the winner of Iowa and N.C. State on Monday.

    Sic ’em, Baylor women’s basketball!
