• #BearsOfBaylor — “We’re trying to … build that bridge between the Waco community and Baylor students…”

“I think a lot of the time, when you think of Baylor, there’s this ‘Baylor Bubble.’ So we’re trying to break that stereotype and build that bridge between the Waco community and Baylor students by making them interact or be together in the same place. We can help with that.

“Today, we’re having a dance for LaVega Junior High. They came here, based on that they needed to have certain grades, attendance requirements, no in-school suspension, no detention. But we’re also opening it up to Baylor students, so they can see an opportunity to be mentors at local schools here in Waco. There are a lot of people here dancing, people eating and having a lot of fun.

“At our sorority, Kappa Delta Chi, LaVega is our local philanthropy, so we knew we needed to get more involved with them, so we came up with this idea to have this dance. We’ve been planning this since the beginning of the semester, so we had help from Student Government, Baylor Multicultural Greek Council, Baylor IFC, Baylor Panhellenic. The financial aid they gave us helped make planning this easier. It’s the first year, and we hope that it will continue going.”
