• Lariat reporters to cover Inauguration live — thanks in part to D.C.-area alumni

    U.S. Presidential inauguration

Eight years ago, a team of Baylor journalism students covered the presidential inauguration live in Washington, D.C. This week, seven more Baylor students are enjoying the same experience — thanks in part to a group of D.C.-area alumni.

The team of seven students includes five Lariat staff members (editor-in-chief Gavin Pugh, digital managing editor Didi Martinez, broadcast managing editor Jessica Babb, staff writer Kalyn Story, and photo editor Liesje Powers) and two Baylor Round Up editors (editor-in-chief Hannah Neumann and photo editor Erica Thorpe). Two of the seven, Babb and Martinez, are already familiar with D.C. from their time in Baylor’s Semester in Washington program.

During their stay, the students will be hosted by three Baylor alumni living in the area: Lisa Hanna, owner of a Washington public relations firm; Ashley Morris, a D.C.-area realtor; and Charles Poe, a senior vice president for production for the Smithsonian Channel. This generosity from the Baylor family will save the students (and the university) the craziness and expense of finding a hotel during the weekend of the inauguration.

In addition to covering the event for the Lariat newspaper and Round Up yearbook, the students will also be producing video content that will air locally as part of Lariat TV News segments on the WCCC-TV College Channel. You can follow their work at BaylorLariat.com.

    Sic ’em, Baylor journalism students!
