  • Football’s Seastrunk named Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year

July 18, 2013 // Posted In Athletics, Honors

Lache SeastrunkEach of the last two years, a Baylor Bear has been named the Big 12’s Preseason Player of the Year for both men’s and women’s basketball. Now, Baylor football’s getting in on the act.

Junior running back Lache Seastrunk was named Big 12 Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year by media covering the conference, the league announced Wednesday. The Temple, Texas, native was one of three Bears named to the preseason all-conference team, along with offensive lineman Cyril Richardson and linebacker Bryce Hager.

The last 12 months have now seen Baylor sweep Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year honors for football, men’s basketball (Pierre Jackson) and women’s basketball (Brittney Griner). Griner followed up the recognition by winning the honor at the end of the season, and Jackson probably should have, as well, after leading the Big 12 in both scoring and assists.

Will Seastrunk do the same? Most experts seem to agree that he’s got a good chance. In addition to his Big 12 honor, Seastrunk (and Richardson, too) have been named preseason All-Americans by virtually every publication out there, including Athlon, Lindy’s, Phil Steele and Sporting News.

Sic ’em, Lache and Baylor football!

[Baylor football season tickets are on sale now; single-game tickets will go on sale Aug. 7, along with tickets for Family Weekend and Homecoming events like After Dark and Pigskin Revue. Stay tuned for more details on those offerings.]
