• Alum knighted by French government for contributions to education and culture

Gabriel LugoThere are a lot of prominent Baylor alumni out there: lawyers, musicians, actors, business leaders, athletes, etc. But very few can boast of having been knighted. Gabriel Lugo, BBA ’83, is one of those honored few.

Lugo received the Medaille Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques (Knight of the Order of Academic Palms) in December, an Order of Chivalry of France for academics and cultural and educational figures. (See video from the ceremony here.) Lugo was honored his contributions to French national education and culture at the Alliance Française in Dallas (AFD), a non-profit, cultural and learning center dedicated to the study of the French language, cultural exchange and friendship between Americans and all French-speaking people. (Read more about his work with AFD here.)

Besides being a Baylor graduate himself, Lugo comes from quite a green and gold family. His father, Charlie Lugo Jr., BBA ’52, and brother, Charlie Lugo III, BBA ’95, both graduated from Baylor, and Gabriel’s daughter, Catherine, is a current BU student. In his role as president at Charles Taylor Risk Consulting, the risk management unit of London-based Charles Taylor Consulting, Lugo has helped Baylor students find internships with Taylor Risk Consulting.

    Sic ’em, Gabriel!
