Baylor Proud
  • From David Crowder’s ‘Rise Up’ to the Baylor fight song of 70 years ago

September 10, 2010 // Posted In History, Just for Fun, Videos

One game down, one win in the books. Next up? The Buffalo Bulls, tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Floyd Casey Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on Fox College Sports; if you don’t have that channel, there’s always the Baylor-ISP Sports Network.

After listening to David Crowder’s rockin’ new “Rise Up” anthem all week (thanks for the free download, David!), we thought we’d go old school today for Parents Weekend (no offense, parents). Before “Old Fite” came along (you can download that, too), there was “Bear Down Baylor Bears,” which made its debut on a national NBC radio broadcast in 1940. Despite the initial widespread attention, the song never fully caught on at BU, and was replaced by “Old Fite” in 1947.

Listen to them both in the below video; “Old Fite” comes first, followed by “Bear Down Baylor Bears.” Which one do you prefer?

    Sic ’em, Bears!
