  • New ‘Star Trek’ movie returns spotlight to Baylor researchers

May 12, 2009 // Posted In Academics, Just for Fun, Research

U.S.S. EnterpriseMy wife and I (along with much of America) saw the new Star Trek movie this weekend. Neither of us qualifies as a “Trekkie”, but we did enjoy the movie, as did most of my friends who have seen it.

The movie’s release has brought attention back to the Baylor researchers who last year outlined how warp drive could be created. At the time, the work by Baylor doctoral student Richard Obousy and professor Dr. Gerald Cleaver was covered by media outlets such as the Discovery Channel, Wired magazine, and the London Daily Telegraph, and in the past week has been discussed in a number of other outlets. [5/14 update: including ABC News!]

    Sic ’em, Baylor researchers!
