• New BGCT president a Baylor Bear

David LowrieWith the Baptist denomination nearing its 400th birthday next year, Baylor is already hosting a yearlong series of lectures, conferences and other events to celebrate our long Baptist heritage. So it seems fitting that as the anniversary approaches, the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT) will be led by a graduate of the world’s largest Baptist university, as Rev. David Lowrie was elected president of the BGCT last week.

Lowrie, a 1982 Baylor grad, is pastor of First Baptist Church in Canyon, Texas. In addition to being the first BGCT president whose father was also president — Rev. D.L. Lowrie led the convention from 1981-83 — Lowrie is likely also the first blogger to lead the BGCT. He writes about his work and the thought processes behind it at loveandlead.wordpress.com.

    Sic ’em, Rev. Lowrie!
