Shoppach helps lead Indians past Yankees
I have to admit – I tuned into last night’s American League Division Series game between Cleveland and New York simply hoping to see the Yankees lose. It was then a pleasant surprise to see former Baylor all-American Kelly Shoppach catching for the Indians. Even better, Shoppach went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and scored a run as the Indians beat the Yankees 6-4 to advance to the next round.
Shoppach, in just his third year in the majors, got the start behind the plate Monday night after hitting .261 with seven home runs and 30 RBI this year for Cleveland. He is one of four Bears who saw action in the big leagues this year, joined by Jason Jennings in Houston, Kip Wells in St. Louis and David Murphy in Boston and Texas. Shoppach’s Indians will now face the Red Sox in the American League Championship Series, starting Friday in Boston.
Sic ‘em, Shoppach!
