• RG3 leads Baylor to dramatic upset of No. 5 Oklahoma

You didn’t dream it. A prime-time network-TV audience saw Robert Griffin III find Terrance Williams in the end zone with eight seconds remaining to lead No. 22 Baylor to a 45-38 upset of No. 5 Oklahoma Saturday night at Floyd Casey Stadium, propelling the Bears back into the national spotlight and RG3 back to the forefront of the Heisman Trophy debate.

The pass was Griffin’s fourth touchdown of the night, to go with 479 yards passing (breaking his own school record) and 72 yards rushing. Baylor led much of the night, but after OU tied the game with 51 seconds remaining, it looked like the game was headed to overtime. A couple of Griffin runs later, however, the Bears were set up for the game-winning pass, leading the Bears to their first-ever win over Oklahoma in 21 tries dating back to 1901.

The craziest play of the night went down in the books as an 87-yard touchdown from Griffin to Kendall Wright (who broke his own school record with 208 yards receiving), but you have to see it to believe. Griffin’s pass hit off Baylor receiver Tevin Reese’s hands and helmet just a few yards downfield, flew up in the air and came down into the hands of a focused Wright, who then outran the defense into the end zone. (The catch was No. 3 on ESPN’s Top 10 Plays last night.)

The final minutes of the contest were seen by a truly national ABC audience after the network’s other game, Oregon-USC, wrapped up first. That allowed the entire country to see RG3’s talents firsthand. Some big names were also on hand to see the show up close at Floyd Casey, including ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and Denver Broncos Hall of Famer/VP John Elway.

Griffin’s big night on a national stage thrust the quarterback back into the heart of the Heisman discussion (where we all know he’s belonged all along). ESPN analyst Mark May went so far as to state he’s one of two clear finalists for the honor. The win also immediately led to “Baylor,” “Robert Griffin III” and “#RG3” all trending worldwide on Twitter Saturday night.

Baylor’s last win over a top-5 team came in 1985, when the Bears beat No. 3 USC 20-13 at the Coliseum. In last night’s win over No. 5 OU, the Bears ran up 620 yards of offense, the most ever surrendered by an Oklahoma defense. Baylor now has five games of 600+ yards of offense this year; the program had only seven such games in their previous 109 seasons.

BU entered the evening ranked 22nd in the BCS, 25th in the AP top 25 and receiving votes in the coaches poll; the victory shot Baylor up to No. 20 in the coaches poll and No. 21 in the AP top 25 (new BCS standings will be released tonight).

The Bears are now 7-3 on the season, including a perfect 6-0 mark at home. Baylor will look to keep rolling next Saturday vs. Texas Tech in Dallas at Cowboys Stadium, then back at home Dec. 3 against Texas.
