• Baylor receives Presidential recognition as one of nation’s top colleges for community service

President's Higher Education Community Service Honor RollThat Baylor students would be recognized for their service, volunteering and civic engagement should come as no surprise to anyone who’s spent time on the BU campus. Still, it’s nice to see others recognizing it — especially when it comes with the name of the President of the United States attached.

Baylor was among 131 colleges and universities nationwide honored by the Corporation for National and Community Service at its highest levels — in BU’s case, as a member of the Honor Roll with Distinction. Only one other school in Texas, St. Mary’s, was honored so highly.

The numbers here are staggering. At Baylor, nearly 10,000 students engage in academic service-learning and other forms of volunteer community service, totaling more than 60,000 hours each year. Students work closely with more than 140 non-profit agencies, as well as schools, churches and other organizations in the greater Waco community, positively impacting the lives of thousands of local residents, families and children. In particular, Baylor was recognized for projects such as Campus Kitchen, Steppin’ Out, and of course the many discipline-specific mission trips.

Sic ’em, Baylor Bears with servant hearts!
