• Alum’s textbook company promises to give a book to a child in need for every book sold

Cause BoundIt’s a simple premise: For every textbook the company sells, a new textbook will be given to a student in need.

That’s the idea behind Cause Bound, a company launched last fall by Baylor grad Jared Allen, BBA ’09. “There are hundreds of thousands of schools around the world that don’t have enough textbooks, or any textbooks at all,” Allen told the Baylor Lariat. “Education is something that can bring people out of poverty.”

“While studying entrepreneurship at Baylor, I discovered my passion for social entrepreneurship,” he continues. “Since graduation, I’ve taken that passion and used it to create my own social venture. Cause Bound helps students find the best prices for their books and do some good at the same time.”

Allen based the idea on a similar practice he saw while interning with TOMS Shoes, but says his inspiration for how business can also help society came from working with what’s come to be known as the coconut project here at Baylor.

    Sic ’em, Jared!
