Rounding up some Baylor faces you’ll find at the movies and on TV
After writing a couple of weeks ago about Baylor professor Chris Hansen’s two honors at recent film festivals for his movie Endings, I’ve been bombarded with word of other Bears currently appearing on television or in films. Here’s a round-up of the Baylor alumni (and one student!) that I know of who are currently appearing on television or in movies; if I’m missing someone, let me know!
* Jackson Hurst, BBA ’99, plays a lead role in the Lifetime series Drop Dead Diva. Hurst stars as young lawyer Grayson Kent in the show, which also airs in Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.
* Toby Meuli, BFA ’04, appears in this weeks’ No. 1 movie at the box office, The Social Network, but might be better known for playing the diva in this Aretha Franklin Snickers commercial (below). On the silver screen, Meuli appears as a friend of Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg who helps spread the site in its earliest days.
* Anne Clarke, BA ’03, featured prominently in the series debut of Chase, which debuted last month on NBC. Clarke, a Houston native, has also appeared in two episodes of NBC’s Friday Night Lights.
* Freshman Lauren Crook appears as an extra in several scenes of the new film Like Dandelion Dust, based on the popular Karen Kingsbury novel and starring Mira Sorvino, Barry Pepper and Cole Hauser. In this story, Crook talks about what it’s like to be on set as a college student, especially on a Christian film.
And that group doesn’t even begin to include the writers and directors out there, from Kevin Reynolds (BA ’74, JD ’76, director of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) to John Lee Hancock (BA ’79, JD ’82, writer and director of The Blind Side) to Michael Brandt and Derek Haas (both class of ’91 and writers of 2 Fast 2 Furious, 3:10 to Yuma and Wanted).
Sic ’em, Bears in Hollywood!
