• Student-run label Uproar Records releases first album

Baylor has a long history of producing excellent musicians, from classical to popular music. Today’s students now have an added bonus to put them on the road to a career in the music industry: Uproar Records, launched last fall as the first student-run record label in the nation.

Thursday, Uproar Records held a release party at local coffee shop Common Grounds for its first album, “Uproar Records Volume One” (see photos from the release here). The label worked with the Baylor Rising Artists Network to hold open auditions last fall and then chose 12 students to sign with Uproar Records and record for the album. This video gives a sampling of their work; you can hear a couple of songs from the album in their entirety on the label’s MySpace page, or watch a music video on UproarRecords.com.)

The label is managed by students in Baylor’s Music and Entertainment Marketing track, the only degree of its kind offered anywhere in the country. Both the degree and the label got their start thanks in part to longtime Christian music mogul Mike Curb, and as the program and label grow, the plan is to record not only additional compilation albums, but also to work with individual artists on solo projects.

    Sic ’em, Uproar Records!
