Over the years, Ted (BBA ’49, JD’ 51) and Sue (BA ’50) Getterman’s support of Baylor has impacted virtually every area of campus.

The Getterman name might stand out most for its connection to Baylor softball, where their lead gifts helped turn Getterman Stadium and the Getterman Indoor Softball Facility from dreams into realities, but the couple has also touched countless students’ lives through funding scholarships and programs in Baylor’s Honors College, Truett Seminary, Martin Museum of Art, and Schools of Business, Education and Music.

(They have also impacted students in much more personal ways; see this story, for instance, about how they helped one student with much-needed dental work — without him even asking.)

Sue Getterman also served three terms as a Regent, from 2001-2010, and now will continue to play an important role as a “Regent Emerita.” The honor was announced by the Baylor Board on Friday, as Getterman became just the 10th individual ever to receive the “Regent Emeritus” title from Baylor (and one of only three at the moment, joining George Anson, JD ’50, and Drayton McLane, BBA ’58). In this role, she will be invited to sit in on Regents’ meetings, though not in a voting role.

“It is truly an honor to bestow upon Sue Getterman the honorary designation of Regent Emerita,” said Board Chairman Richard Willis, BBA ’81, MBA ’82. “Sue and her late husband, Ted, have been wonderfully faithful and steadfast champions of their alma mater, from Sue’s dedicated service on the Baylor Board of Regents to providing substantial financial resources to support numerous academic programs and scholarships for students across the academic spectrum at Baylor. Their generosity to women’s athletics at Baylor set a high standard that inspires others to this day. We are deeply grateful for Ted and Sue, and it is a great honor for us to recognize the remarkable service of Sue Getterman with the lifetime designation of Regent Emerita.”

    Sic ’em, Sue Getterman!
