• Alum helped design latest Disney park castle

Disneyland ShanghaiIf you’ve seen Shrek or either of Disney’s last two major animated films (The Princess and the Frog or Tangled), then you’ve seen the work of a Baylor graduate.

If you visit Disneyland Shanghai when it opens in 2016, you’ll see his work again.

Doug Rogers, BFA ’82, served as art director for Shrek, visual development artist for The Princess and the Frog and production designer for Tangled. Each role has its own responsibilities, but speaking generally, Rogers has been responsible for much of the look and feel of each film. (His credits also include a lot of time in the theater world, from the Shakespeare Festival of Los Angeles to the Dallas Theatre Center to Broadway.)

Most recently, he has been involved in designing the new castle at Disneyland Shanghai (pictured at right; click the image for the complete drawing). The design for China’s first Disney park was unveiled last month at the D23 expo in California.

Rogers was back on campus last week, speaking to students as part of the Baylor Theatre Professional Artist Series. He talks in depth about his work in this interview, which also features several examples of his designs.

    Sic ’em, Doug!
