New David Crowder song rallies Baylor fans to ‘Rise Up’
The 42,821 fans in attendance for the Baylor football 2010 opener Saturday enjoyed not only the 34-3 win over Sam Houston State; they were also treated to the debut of the latest song by Baylor alumnus and award-winning recording artist David Crowder, “Rise Up.”
Crowder was inspired to write the song after seeing the Baylor “Rise Up” commercials on local television. “That ‘Rise Up’ there — it just made something in the heart swell,” he told the Waco Tribune-Herald. Crowder went to bed that night and woke up the next morning with the song in his head; he recorded it that afternoon and shared it with a friend in Baylor’s athletic department. “They got pretty excited, and I was already excited,” he says. “So we went ahead and polished it up, and it’s part of the opening video sequence” for Baylor football this season.
A 60-second version of the song played as the team took the field Saturday, and the song was played in its entirety between the third and fourth quarters. The Trib reports that the song is being released to Christian radio today, but it’s available just for Baylor fans as a free download at baylor.edu/riseup and baylorbears.com.
Sic ’em, David!
