• Alum recognized for her teaching on front page of Tallahassee paper

newspaper articleAt Baylor, we’re pretty proud of our professors, be it for their work in the classroom, in the lab, or in their field. We’re also proud of the professors who have trained here and gone on to affect the lives of students elsewhere. Dr. Edith Davis, EdD ’07 — featured on the front page of the Tallahassee [Fla.] Democrat earlier this year — is just one example.

Davis, one of the first black women geophysicists in the nation, spent years as a scientist in corporate America before returning to the classroom as a professor at Florida A&M last fall. “Dr. Davis is full of enthusiasm. You can’t help but be impressed with her and her knowledge and interest and love for science,” says Dr. Charles P. Ervin Jr., chair of FAMU’s Department of Secondary Education.

Davis says she made the move to teaching because, “When it’s all said and done, it’s all about relationships and what you have done for somebody else. If it’s all about you, you’re going to have a very sad life. I want my students to know that every child they touch is a gift, a package that needs to be opened.”

    Sic ’em, Dr. Davis!
