{"id":9422,"date":"2012-07-11T18:04:17","date_gmt":"2012-07-11T18:04:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baylorproud.wpengine.com\/?p=9422"},"modified":"2012-07-11T18:04:17","modified_gmt":"2012-07-11T18:04:17","slug":"students-put-baylor-classroom-lessons-to-work-on-summer-mission-trips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2012\/07\/students-put-baylor-classroom-lessons-to-work-on-summer-mission-trips\/","title":{"rendered":"Students put Baylor classroom lessons to work on summer mission trips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/mediacommunications\/news.php?action=story&amp;story=116777\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"missions12b-july12\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/missions12b-july12.jpg\" alt=\"Baylor nutrition team in Guatemala\" width=\"225\" height=\"241\" \/>More than 200 Baylor students went out this summer on university-sponsored mission trips<\/a>, using what they&#8217;ve learned in the classroom to serve in the real world.<\/p>\n<p>Engineering majors provided assistance to a school in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/spirituallife\/index.php?id=77591\" target=\"_blank\">Rwanda<\/a>&#8230;\u00a0Music majors used their talents as outreaches for charitable organizations in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/spirituallife\/index.php?id=77596\" target=\"_blank\">Malaysia and Hong Kong<\/a>&#8230; Nutrition science students developed educational materials on diabetes and childhood nutrition to share with rural <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/spirituallife\/index.php?id=84512\" target=\"_blank\">Hondurans<\/a>&#8230; Public health teams worked alongside doctors in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/spirituallife\/index.php?id=77567\" target=\"_blank\">Kenya<\/a>&#8230; Other teams headed to England, Ghana, Greece and Uganda.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s inspiring to read, see and hear the students&#8217; responses to their trips:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sophomore Josh Hansen put together <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?v=4118328958893\" target=\"_blank\">this video recapping his Ghana team&#8217;s experience<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/baylormusicmissions2012.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Baylor Music Missions Team<\/a> blogged and photographed throughout their trip.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/womensleadershipinkenya.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kenya Women&#8217;s Leadership Team<\/a> did the same, sharing stories and videos.<\/li>\n<li>Students share about their week teaching nutrition with <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/42988198\" target=\"_blank\">Mission Guatemala<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Student-athletes like football&#8217;s Levi Norwood and women&#8217;s basketball&#8217;s Suni Agbuke blogged during the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylorbears.com\/sportsministry\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sports Ministry team&#8217;s Kenya trip<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Baylor Missions posted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/bumissions\" target=\"_blank\">tons of photos on Facebook<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A few excerpts&#8230; &#8220;A\u00a0wonderful experience of personally seeing the extensive love for Christ in God\u2019s global church Body.&#8221; &#8230; &#8220;God has showed me that we as the inhabitants of a richer country are <a href=\"http:\/\/strawtobread.com\/vivian-nguyen\/\" target=\"_blank\">privileged with the responsibility<\/a>to fulfill the needs of less fortunate nations.&#8221; &#8230; &#8220;We are transformed as a result of the transforming work that we are in the midst of. &#8230; We don\u2019t go because they need us, but we do go because we absolutely need them. <a href=\"http:\/\/themustains.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/20\/ghana-reflections-part-four\/\" target=\"_blank\">We go because we need God<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Teams are already forming for next year, and if you feel so led, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/spirituallife\/index.php?id=60223\" target=\"_blank\">they could use your support<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sic\u00a0\u2019em, Baylor missionaries!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than 200 Baylor students went out this summer on university-sponsored mission trips, using what they&#8217;ve learned in the classroom to serve in the real world.
