Today&#8217;s students now have an added bonus to put them on the road to a career in the music industry: <a href=\"http:\/\/uproarrecords.com\" target=\"_blank\">Uproar Records<\/a>, launched last fall as the first student-run record label in the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday, Uproar Records <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/lariat\/news.php?action=story&amp;story=57704\" target=\"_blank\">held a release party<\/a> at local coffee shop Common Grounds for its first album, &#8220;Uproar Records Volume One&#8221; (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/galleries\/uproar-records-april09\/\" target=\"_blank\">see photos from the release here<\/a>). The label worked with the Baylor Rising Artists Network to hold open auditions last fall and then chose <a href=\"http:\/\/uproarrecords.com\/artists.htm\" target=\"_blank\">12 students<\/a> to sign with Uproar Records and record for the album. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wSVH-Irb3x8&amp;eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fel%2Dprod%2Ebaylor%2Eedu%2Fbaylorproud%2F%3Fpaged%3D2&amp;feature=player_embedded\" target=\"_blank\">This video<\/a> gives a sampling of their work; you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/UproarRecordsBaylor\" target=\"_blank\">hear a couple of songs<\/a> from the album in their entirety on the label&#8217;s MySpace page, or <a href=\"http:\/\/uproarrecords.com\/videos.htm\" target=\"_blank\">watch a music video<\/a> on UproarRecords.com.)<\/p>\n<p>The label is managed by students in Baylor&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/business\/marketing\/index.php?id=32153\" target=\"_blank\">Music and Entertainment Marketing<\/a> track, the only degree of its kind offered anywhere in the country. Both the degree and the label got their start thanks in part to longtime Christian music mogul <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/development\/index.php?id=58010\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Curb<\/a>, and as the program and label grow, the plan is to record not only additional compilation albums, but also to work with individual artists on solo projects.<\/p>\n<p>Sic \u2019em, Uproar Records!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Baylor has a long history of producing excellent musicians, from classical to popular music.
